Secluded in a shady grove on the landward side of Arugambay, Hideaway’s main guesthouse and white-washed, thatch-roofed cabins are tucked into an unspoiled area of Sri Lanka’s spectacular east coast.
Once a well-kept secret among globetrotting surfers, there are more than a dozen world-class surf sites within a twenty-mile radius of this unusual retreat. Across the road, less than 100 meters from Hideaway’s tranquil gardens, is a sweeping white-sand swimming and surfing beach.
Hideaway is uniquely situated near the Eden-like Lahugala Elephant Sanctuary, and the Kumana Bird Sanctuary, site of one the most spectacular avian migrations in the southern hemisphere. Exquisitely preserved Buddhist and Hindu sacred archaeological sites are scattered within a short hike or drive of the Hideaway grounds. Our staff will be happy to arrange excursions to these and other extraordinary destinations in the region. Airport transfers, car rentals, drivers, local tour guides and many other services are also available for the asking.
